High-Strength Corundum Refractory Castable

Corundum refractory castables have become an ideal choice for key parts of thermal kilns due to their excellent performance. The characteristics of corundum refractory castables are high strength, high softening temperature under load, and good slag resistance. The general use temperature is 1500~1800℃. RS refractory material manufacturers, high-strength corundum refractory castables, and tabular corundum castables have good results in the actual production of high-temperature industrial furnaces.

Mix Ratio and Performance of Corundum Refractory Castables

  1. Mixing ratio

The commonly used mix ratio of corundum refractory castables is corundum particles of 5 to 3 mm, 38% to 45%. 3~0.15mm, 25%~32%. Corundum powder (0.09mm) 10% ~ 20%, industrial alumina fine powder 10% ~ 15%. In addition, CA-70 cement or aluminum hydroxide is used as a coagulant, and ≤5% soft clay can be added as a sintering agent.

  1. Performance

The performance of corundum refractory castables is as follows: bulk density 2.85~2.95g/cm3. The compressive strength after drying at 110℃ is greater than 30MPa, and the compressive strength after burning at 1400℃ is 35~60MPa, sometimes up to 100MPa. The wire change after burning at 1400℃ is ±0.4%, and the load softening temperature with 4% deformation is greater than 1600℃, sometimes reaching 1700℃.

The Use of Corundum Refractory Castables

  1. After the castables are mixed and formed, they are naturally cured. The curing time is 3 days, and contact with water is strictly prohibited. After the natural curing period expires, it can be stored indoors or outdoors. If white hair grows on the surface, it is the crystallization of aluminum salt and calcium salt in the material. It disappears after heating and does not affect its use.
  2. In phosphoric acid or phosphate refractory castables, after mixing and forming without adding a coagulant, the mold can be heated and baked after resting in a natural environment for 2 hours. After gaining strength, the mold can be removed. If a coagulant is added to mix and form, it should be maintained in a natural environment with a temperature higher than 10°C without watering. If the ambient temperature is higher than 20℃, the mold can be removed after 3 to 5 hours of rest. Otherwise, it should be extended for about 5 hours before the mold can be removed.

Application of Corundum Refractory Castables in Thermal Kilns

Corundum refractory castables are widely used in thermal kilns. Its superior performance makes it the first choice material for key parts of high-temperature equipment in steel, non-ferrous metals, chemicals, ceramics, and other industries. Specific applications are as follows.

  1. Steel industry. It is used for refractory components such as liners, sprues, furnace roofs, and other key parts of ladles, steelmaking furnaces, converters, and electric arc furnaces.
  2. Non-ferrous industries. It is used as refractory components in key parts of smelting furnaces, boilers, and other non-ferrous metals such as copper, aluminum, zinc, and tin.
  3. Chemical industry. Refractory components are used in high-temperature reaction equipment and furnaces such as petroleum, chemical fertilizers, and petrochemicals.
  4. Ceramic industry. Refractory components are used in key parts of high-temperature kilns such as tunnel kilns, shuttle kilns, and roller kilns.

With its excellent performance and wide range of applications, corundum refractory castables provide reliable protection for high-temperature equipment in various industries. Through reasonable mix proportions and usage methods, corundum refractory castables can greatly increase the service life of key parts of thermal kilns, reduce maintenance costs, and create more value for enterprises. In the future, corundum refractory castables will continue to play a key role in providing continuous protection for high-temperature equipment in various industries.
